The Santa Cruz Church in Pampaneira is one of the exceptional cases in la Alpujarra where its exterior walls are without whitewash. Its date of construction is 1730.

The natural drain of the lowest lagoon, called “La Hondera” (de deepest one), incites this delicate waterfall. Municipal district of Trevelez.

Above Pitres and Capileira, in the Municipal District of La Taha, you can find this waterfall in the recreational area of “Tajo Cortés”. The mountain water scarves a deep crack in the rocks and then it precipitates to the void.

It is a group of young trees, all belonging to the same “Mother tree”. It consists in the prune of the first chestnut tree that permits the branches grow vertically to trees. Over the time they grow wider until they can be used as beams and thresholds. Or cut as “alfajias” (peaces of the wood that are collocated between the beams to hold the peaces of stones of slate, used on the ceilings of the typical alpujarrenean houses).

Frequently, the clouds stay underneath the observant and on top of them you can contemplate how the landscape has a transformation. The mountains convert in islands and the valleys in marine beds.

In the winter dusk, returning from the Mulhacén Peak, you can see the sun reflecting in the Mediterranean Sea, as a giant mirror.

Like in a temporary and space transposition, the Buddhist retirement center Osel Ling, situated on the top of a mountain, transports us with its religious constructions to a world of peace, retirement and old learning’s. Municipal district of Pampaneira.

“launa” is the meteor iced slate, a special earth that swells up with water, and protects the houses from the rain.

From the top of Pampaneira you can observe how the village adapts to the mountain with its land steps. Pampaneira is the lowest town of the Gorge of Poqueira towns. It is surrounded by woods of Chestnuts and Holm oak trees.
